Scotland and Arsenal defender Jen Beattie, 29, has today spoken about her breast cancer diagnosis in October, in an interview with the BBC.
She said: “It kind of does seem like a massive blur. You automatically think the worst. I asked the question, 'Am I going to die?' - that's what I asked them.
"I was grateful because they allowed my club doctor to be in appointments with me to ask all the right medical questions, because I didn't have a clue.”
Beattie missed out on Scotland’s October matches against Albania and Finland due to the diagnosis but returned to the pitch for the recent games against Portugal and Finland to make her 130th cap for her country.
Scotland Women’s National Team head coach Shelley Kerr said: “Jen’s announcement today demonstrates incredible bravery to talk about a difficult subject and the struggles she has gone through recently.
“She is an incredible player and a brilliant role model for youngsters. At the Scotland National Team we are all behind her and wish her well.
