SWFL 2 | Partick Thistle Women 5 Aberdeen 1 | Glasgow Green
Aberdeen’s unbeaten run was brought to an end as they fell to a 5-1 defeat against Partick Thistle in Glasgow. The home side came from behind for victory as they hit four goals in the second half against the league leaders.
The visitors made two changes from the side that won at Hamilton last week with Natasha Bruce and Lauren Gordon coming in to replace Johan Fraser and Bailley Collins.
The hosts got off to a good start in the game and the Dons had captain Kelly Forrest to thank early on as her last-ditch tackle blocked Cheryl Rigden in the box. Gail Gilmour then did well to get her fingertips to a dangerous looking free-kick as Thistle imposed themselves on the league leaders.
It was the team in red that took the lead against the run of play as the Dons put together their first piece of real quality. A good passing move saw the ball arrive at Francesca Ogilvie on the left wing, her deep cross found Eilidh SHORE arriving at the back post who powered a header beyond Andrews in the Thistle goal.
The hosts looked to hit back immediately as Cara McBrearty tested Gilmour from distance. At the other end Eva Thomson fired a shot straight at the keeper from twenty yards.
Thistle’s pressure was building and they came close to an equaliser on 39 minutes. Jade Gallon’s powerful free-kick from 25 yards out produced a good diving save from Gilmour. The pressure finally told as the home side levelled on the stroke of half time.
GALLON’s strong run took her clear through the middle of the Aberdeen defence and she finished low past the advancing Gilmour to level the scores going into the interval.

The hosts took control of the game in the early stages of the second period as they scored twice with four minutes of the re-start.
On 47 minutes McBrearty did well after picking up the ball on the right wing and her low cross into the area found DOCHERTY in the centre of goal for a simple close-range finish.
Before Aberdeen could recover, they found themselves two goals behind as Thistle made it 3-1. Sophie GALLACHER found herself in space inside the penalty area and she made no mistake with a powerful finish.
The hosts tails were up and they were bossing the game as the Dons struggled for a way back into things. Gallacher came close to extending the Jags lead but her shot on the turn flew narrowly wide just before the hour.
Things got worse for the Dons on 61 minutes as they fell further behind. RIGDEN bustled her way into the box from the left wing and despite Gilmour getting something on it, the powerful shot found its way into the corner of the net for 4-1.
Aberdeen were uncharacteristically struggling to create any chances as the half went on with a speculative Eva Thomson shot from distance their only real effort of note.
A great afternoon for the hosts was capped off two minutes from time as TRIALIST came off the bench to finish well from the left side of the penalty box for 5-1.
In contrast, it was a rare bad day at the office for an Aberdeen side who remain at the top of SWPL2 despite losing their first league match of the campaign.
