Alonso delighted with the Champions League experience of new signings ...

Manager Fran Alonso is confident his summer signings’ combined Champions League experience won’t just bolster his match day squad, but also provide a great example for Celtic’s rich young talent.

The additions of Megan Crosson, Anita Marcos and Caitlin Hayes brings great understanding of the highest level in European football with all three having featured, and with the Celts looking to compete amongst Europe’s elite, Alonso is delighted with the stature the three new players bring to Glasgow.

“Ultimately, our goal is to qualify for the Champions League and we will fight against top teams this season for it, but in the medium term we want to qualify for Champions League,” he began.

“To have Megan, Caitlin and Anita all with Champions League experience is great and it’s important that they are used to that environment.”

American Crosson enjoyed Champions League while in Lithuania, while Hayes’ European exploits in Cyprus bagged her two competition goals, but most recently, Anita climbed off the bench in Atletico’s quarter-final against Barcelona to gain further experience before returning to the SWPL1.

And their off-field experience is just as vital for Alonso, who hopes it will lift his already spirited Celtic side, and encourage that professionalism among the club’s younger ranks.

“If you're used to high pressure environments and elite competition, when games have to be decided in the last minute - like for example the previous game against Glasgow City - we manage to get results because the team doesn't panic and believes. It's very important to bring this Champions League experience to the team to support the quality.

“We also have many under-17s and under-19s Scotland Internationals, so it’s a great example for these girls to see players that have played at this level and it will help the whole pathway.

“It's great for the whole club. First they are great girls, which is the most important thing for me, but to have this experience, I'm delighted with the new signings,” he added.
