SWPL 1 | Eilish McSorley To Depart City

July 10, 2020

Glasgow City FC and defender Eilish McSorley have reached the mutual decision to end her existing contract.

The 27 year old departs City after her third term with the Scottish Champions. After joining initially in 2008, McSorley spent 7 hugely successful seasons with the club, before moving on to play in Sweden.

She returned briefly in 2017 before again departing to play in Sweden and Italy. Last summer the defender came back for her third spell, helping City to lift the League title, Scottish Cup and of course reaching the Champions League last 8.

Commenting on her departure, McSorley said, “With a mutual decision between myself and Glasgow City, we have decided to part ways. At this point in my career, I feel it would be best for me to move on and I am excited to see what the future holds.

"I’d like to begin with thanking everyone at Glasgow City not just for the recent year but over the course of my career. Spending close to 9 years overall with the club, they have played a major role in my playing career. I have had some of my best memories and experiences with City and I will cherish them greatly.

"I want to wish the team the best of luck in the upcoming Champions League 1/4 final against Wolfsburg and of course in next season's Champions League campaign and domestic season. It goes without saying, #OCAC.

”Head Coach, Scott Booth said, "I'm disappointed to be losing Eilish from our squad but it's been a mutual decision. She is a player with lots to offer and has really good experience. I wish her every success going forward.

"Everyone at City wishes Eilish the very best.
