SWFL 2 League Cup Final

Dryburgh Athletic 2 v 3 Morton Women FC *AET

5' OG Robertson, 9' McKee, 35' Gormley, 111' Darroch

What a fantastic display of football from both sides tonight as they battled the elements to put on a very entertaining match.

Morton took an early lead on 5' with an unfortunate OG by Robertson, who was trying to stop the on rushing striker but put the ball in her own net.

Just 4' later and Morton went 2 up when McKee picked up the ball some 20 yards out and fired a magnificent shot into the top corner.

A spell of Dryburgh possession saw Morton keeper Elliot called into action twice in quick succession and pulling off a brilliant save followed by an easy shot right at her. Dryburgh looked more settled by this point and were beginning to see the ball more.

On the 35' mark, Dryburgh won a corner and what a goal by Gormley as she scored straight from the corner, game on with Dryburgh 1 v 2 Morton in the lead up to half time. Challenges were strong and Morton's Davis was first to go in the referees book as she took the player not the ball.

Half Time: Dryburgh Athletic 1 v 2 Morton - No changes at the break.

Both teams came out strong for the 2nd half and it was Dryburgh who levelled the game. A tremendous strike by Ramage hit the crossbar with such force that it dropped down and smacked off the goalkeepers back and into the net.

Dryburgh 2 v 2 Morton and it was game on, both teams changed tempo as they searched for that winning goal.

On 70' Morton's goal keeper pulled off what some might say was the save of the match when she stopped a rocket strike from Dryburgh's Ramage at only 6 yards.

Morton's McGeehan was the next player to have a shot and it smashed off the cross bar, and in a panic the Dryburgh defender at close range chose to pass it back to her keeper at such a height she had no choice but to header the ball to clear the danger.

Morton again were on the attack on 77' when Dryburgh's Cook's high tackle gave another free kick to Morton. Her shot was looking like a goal when it deflected out for a corner.

Another yellow card this time for Dryburgh's Ramage after a 2 footed challenge, and the resultant free kick was on target but easily held by McKay in the Dryburgh goal.

Extra Time

The first half of extra time saw both teams looking tired but digging deep to find that goal. It was end to end with neither team really testing the keepers and Morton's Murdoch shooting wide.

Half Time of Extra Time

Dryburgh's Simson was off the park with leg cramp for a while but eventually came back on approximately 5' minutes later. During this time Morton failed to take advantage of the extra player.

Play was stopped again as Dryburgh's A.Ramage was injured and unable to continue and was taken off in a wheel chair, we hope that its nothing serious. As Dryburgh had used all their subs it was now 10 v 11 for the dying minutes of the match.

On the 118th minute Morton's Darroch pick up the ball some 35 yards out and launched a stunning shot which flew into the net and sealed the win.

Congratulation to Morton Women FC on their win and well done to Dryburgh Athletic for making it such an entertaining final.
