Cumbernauld Colts v Boroughmuir Thistle

March 6, 2017

Cumbernauld came away with another three points from a dominant performance against visitors Boroughmuir winning 2-0.

In a game that they had restricted their opponents to a solitary shot at goal, the home side retained control of the ball well.

Boroughmuir were stuffy and organised resisting the Colts until they were broken down in the 23rd minute. A cross field pass from Lynne Jackson bounced at the edge of the box. Melissa Porter had sprinted to meet the pass and nodded the ball over the keeper who'd come out to challenge her.

With a slender lead at the half the home side were instructed to continue their game plan after the break.

A Second goal was the least Cumbernauld deserved for their efforts and this came deep into injury time at the end of the 2nd half. Substitute Kim Guthrie broke down the right and crossed for Sarah Wardlaw to finish at the back post.

After the match manager McSherry said she was rally pleased with the game management from her side against an opponent they'd struggled against previously. I don't think at any point we were really troubled by Boroughmuir, and it gives us a slight advantage when we face them again in the league cup in two weeks. Next up before that though is Partick Thistle, that will be our focus in training this week as we look to continue our good start to the league.
