Swifts 17s win and pick up the league trophy

In cold and windy conditions Swifts settled quicker. Playing into the wind, Swifts were passing the ball well and creating good chances.

They opened the scoring early on when a Leah ball came favourably off Sheyenne’s shoulder for Hannah to knock home. Swifts continued to dominate and were soon 2 up when Tara bundled home a Rachel corner.

With a big squad Swifts made regular changes but it was two starters who combined for the goal of the game.

Joanne won good ball and played a good ball to Sheyenne who rounded two defenders before finishing well. Close to half time swifts went 4 up when an unfortunate Montrose defender turned into and through, her own net.

Swifts made regular changes in the 2nd half and despite having the wind at their back were unable to add to their tally. Rachel hit the bar and other teammates just couldn’t find the target hitting just wide or over the bar. With the bitter wind biting the girls were all relieved when the final whistle blew.

After the game Lorna Young from the SFA presented the girls with their League Winner’s medals and the East Region U17s league trophy.

It’s been an unbelievable season for the girls winning the two competitions they entered.

The girls now go into the close season and will be looking forward to the 2017 season already.

This was the last 17s game for Mhairi and Deanna and we wish them well at ladies and coaching level respectively.
