SWFL1 South: Cumbernauld Colts v Glasgow City Development

The Colts suffered their second loss in a row with this weeks 1-0 home loss following the previous weeks 4-1 defeat away to Hibernian.

City won the match courtesy of a late goal with only 4 minutes remaining. Monica Harty striking from distance to beat Angela McGann in the home goal.

McGann had performed heroics to keep City at bay in a keeping performance that resulted in her being awarded her sides player of the match award, and had also kept Cumbernauld in the match prior to conceding from Harty.

The chances in the first half were few and far between. The closest both sides came to opening the scoring was when Crilly for City and Fern for Cumbernauld both struck the bar with shots that had their opponents keepers beaten.

In the second half, City were the more creative and dominated possession. Cumbernauld at times were pinned back and found it difficult to get out of their own half. That said, towards the end of the match and after they went behind, the Colts upped the tempo but ultimately came up short.

After the match manager McSherry was in high praise of how her side had defended for long periods and were in the match right to the end. She was disappointed at the loss, reflecting that a draw may have been a truer reflection of the match. But for a slight lapse in concentration to allow Harty time to settle herself and line up her shot I thought we were very evenly matched.

Our next match is away to Spartans, so we'll get the girls in this week and prepare them for that, hoping to get back to winning ways.
