SWFL1 SOUTH: Cumbernauld Colts v Westerlands A

The home side made it two wins from two games following this win against Westerlands. However, this could have been a rather different result had they not been as dominant in the first half.

The lions share of possession and chances went the way of Cumbernauld. The first clear chance of note came from great work between Fern and Wardlaw. Wardlaw crossing to find Morrison inside the box but her shot went over the bar of Roe's goal in the 15th minute.

Roe, a former Colt in the Westerlands goal prevented her side from going behind five minutes later with a fine save from one of her defenders, as a goal seemed certain. Touching the ball round her post.

The visiting keeper could not prevent her side from going behind from the next opportunity created by her former side. Emma McIntyre with a speculative effort from 25/30 yards that sailed over her head and into the net.

The second and third came in quick succession.

The influential McIntyre tried to thread a ball through to Kim Guthrie. Westerlands intercepted the ball and headed back to Roe. The defensive header was just out of her reach and she touched the ball to Guthrie who coolly tapped the ball home.

Five minutes before the break Wardlaw finished from great build up work from Fern. Both of the home sides wide players combining to give a comprehensive first half advantage.

With a seemingly match winning advantage the Colts started the second hand complacently.

The Westies coming straight out the box in the second half and getting a goal back within 30 seconds of the restart. This got their tails up and gave them the belief they'd get something out of the game.

They're increased belief and majority possession in the second half ultimately came to nothing for Westerlands. Cumbernauld regrouped and soaked up the pressure thrown their way.

After the match McSherry was extremely pleased with her sides endeavours. "As good as we were in the first half, we were equally as poor in the second. But, we're happy with the points as we had a somewhat make shift side out today due to injury, holiday and work commitments. Fergus stepped in to make her debut and did phenomenal in the minutes she played"
