SWFL1 South: FC Kilmarnock v Rangers Development

FC Kilmarnock 1-1 Rangers Development

As billed in the weekend preview to “be a cracker”, this game certainly lived up to the expectations. It was end to end from start to finish, a very entertaining match. Credit to both teams who played it in a fantastic manner.

The game started in a frantic fashion with Kilmarnock trying to press high up the pitch forcing Rangers into playing a long ball out of defence, hopefully picking up loose balls in the midfield areas to try and dominate proceedings.

However, it was the away side who took the lead in the 14th minute after some slack play in midfield left the full back exposed which the Rangers striker capitalised on and finished well past Hunter in the Kilmarnock goal.

Killie were keeping pressure on Rangers across the midfield and defensive areas, creating plenty of chances with Patterson, Docherty and Munro firing narrowly past. A goalmouth scramble took place in the 27th minute with the home side screaming for a goal as the ball was cleared off the line, the referee turning the claims away.

HT 1-0 Rangers

The second half was barely minutes old and Killie were level , great work down the flank and a neat cutback from Abby Robinson who found Munro. Her shot was saved by the keeper and dropped at the feet of Docherty who made no mistake in firing home. 1-1.

The game ebbed and flowed from end to end, with plenty of shots on target from both sides but nothing really troubling the keepers who themselves were in good form.

In the 85th minute with Rangers breaking in numbers going for a winner and great defensive work from Kilmarnock, Killie gained possession and quickly moved the ball forward through Docherty up to substitute striker Telford who let fly from 20yards, narrowly dipping over the bar.

With minutes remaining it was the Rangers midfielder Farquhar who tested Hunter with a fantastic strike dipping under the crossbar but Hunter was up to the task and tipped over the bar to keep the scores level.
