SWFL2 SW: Striker Scott helps Ayr Ladies fire five past Dumbarton

A beautiful afternoon saw Ayr ladies continue their fine run in the league with a convincing 5 -1 victory over Dumbarton United and an unbelievable 5 goal blitz from striker Rachel Scott.

Ayr started the game a little nervy but were soon controlling the middle of the park. Ayr were using the pace of Jodie Barbour and Rachel Scott to put the Dumbarton defence under pressure as they ran at them from all angles.

On 22 minutes a delightful free kick from Hannah Taysum, fell just in front of Rachel, who turned on the half volley to score. A minute later she forced the Dumbarton defence into a poor clearance and pounced to put Ayr 2 up.

Ayr were now in complete control and after tireless work from Jodie, she set up her strike partner for another 2 goals.

Half time 4 -0

The second half resumed with Ayr again in the driving seat, chance after chance fell to Ayr, with Jodie and Chloe Duthie coming close.

Dumbarton got one back when a hopeful ball was played through to the striker and her effort trickled by the excellent Ayr keeper Natalie Docherty.

Ayr made a few changes, and continued to attack. Scott got her fifth when a terrific run by Kerry Fitzsimmons, put her through to finish, for hers and Ayr's fifth.

Manger David Danaher said afterwards:

Girls were tremendous again today, neat passing and awareness were evident today, especially in the middle of the park. We took the game to Dumbarton and never stopped all game, immensely proud of the full squad today, in their attitude and application.
