SWFL2 Central: Stenhousemuir 0 - 1 St Roch's Ladies

April 3, 2016

A disciplined and well organised performance by St Roch's saw them bring home a well deserved three points from their trip to Ochilview to take on Stenhousemuir.

St Roch's counter attacking display caused Stenhousemuir problems all game and it took some fine saves from Skelton in the home goal to keep the score to 1 nil.

Finding it difficult to break through the visitors midfield and defence, Stenhousemuir quickly resorted to long diagonal balls that resulted in a succession of goal kicks and throw ins to the visitors.

Other than gathering up the odd long ball, the St Roch's keeper Nicolle Andrews didn't have a save to make in the first half.

The deadlock was broken by the visitors seven minutes from half time when Caroline Docherty chased down a through ball from the lively Claire Wright.

With Docherty bearing down on her the unfortunate Skelton knocked the ball into her own net as she desperately tried to clear it to safety.

Into the second half and St Roch's quick breaks continued to trouble the home defence with only fine goalkeeping denying Docherty twice and then substitute McKenna from increasing the visitors lead.

With ten minutes left St Roch's centre back Stephanie McManus launched a 45 yard free kick high and long at the home goal which had the home keeper scrambling to punch clear.

Two minutes from time saw Andrews forced into her first real save of the game as Stenny threw players forward looking for the equaliser.

The team spirit, work rate and determination shown by the whole St Roch's squad today will undoubtedly take this team a long way this season.
